Day Five: Morningside Pharmacy

04 February 2009 | 11:18

Managed to beat the snow and made it into the office today.  I don’t think I could permanently work from home as I would miss the office environment (crazy I know) but it is so much easier to speak directly to my other directors and get things agreed and going.

Anyway, back at my desk I managed to follow through the steps I described yesterday and made a complete back-up of my PC – pretty quick and painless.

I’m now on to seeing how I can make the most out of this laptop in our business and try and put into practice a thought I had yesterday.

We’re piloting a new health program for the NHS which involves screening people for cardio-vascular diseases.  It will I’m sure be part of the ‘MOT Health Checks’ that Gordon Brown recently referred to in his vision for the NHS.

The tests are quite simple and involve things like measuring your blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol levels and body weight measurements.  These are then fed into a computer at one of our branches and provides the pharmacist with some analysis on how healthy you are and how you could improve your health.  This test is specifically targeted at people who might not normally go to see their GP and pharmacies are seen as the ideal location to offer these service (convenience and easy access to a healthcare professional).  But we think that we could do even better than that, imagine taking this test to your place of work and doing it for you at your convenience?  Well that’s our plan.  We’d like to get the analysis software loaded up on this laptop and start visiting offices and community centres in our neighbourhood to start reaching those people who could be at risk and might not yet know it.  Sadly this is our last blog so I can’t tell you how we’ll get on, but look out for us coming to an office near you!
